Richard ZABEL
Richard B. Zabel is a Partner, the General Counsel, Chief Legal Officer, and a Director of Research at Elliott Investment Management L.P. Mr. Zabel is a member of Elliott’s Management, Valuation, Compliance and Operational Risk, Allocation, and Cyber Risk Committees. Prior to joining Elliott in 2015, Mr. Zabel was the Deputy United States Attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. From October 2009 until October 2011, he was the Chief of the Criminal Division. From 1999 until 2009, prior to rejoining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Zabel was a Partner, Management Committee member and Co-Head of Litigation at the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. From 1991 to 1999, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Zabel served as Chief of the Narcotics Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office and has received numerous awards, including the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service and the Department of Justice Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Mr. Zabel received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was an Ames Moot Court winner and Best Oralist. He received his A.B., summa cum laude, from Princeton University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Zabel was a Fulbright Scholar to France. Mr. Zabel teaches as an adjunct professor of National Security and Terrorism Investigations and Prosecutions at Columbia Law School.
